CHARITIES

According to the Charities Commission there are currently more than 150,000 registered charities in England and Wales with a combined annual income of more than £52 billion.

Nearly 60 per cent of registered charities have an income of £10,000 or less, but the bigger charities provide many essential services in the health, community and education sectors - often providing services that complement and extend government and council run services.

My Advice Gateway provides a quick way to see what help is available from the charity sector. As well as free authoritative advice on a wide range of issues, charities provide help and support for the elderly, the disabled, those that are ill and people in need of housing help.
